Exfoliate: Steps in How To Prepare For Your Perfect Self-Tan

washcloth bathsponge and loofahWhat is exfoliation? Basically, exfoliation is the removal and replacement of dead skin cells with younger and newer skin cells. You could say that this is a process that is similar to what snakes do when they shed their skins. Know that the main purpose of exfoliation is to unclog pores where natural skin oil comes out to serve as a coating of the human skin and moisturizer. In addition, exfoliation also cleans the skin which lessens the chances of breakouts from appearing. So how does one effectively exfoliate his or her body in preparation for tanning?

Step 1: One of the first things that you have to do is to look for skin care stores that sell exfoliating products. Some of the more commonly used exfoliating products are often salt-based, rice-based, or sugar-based. If you are uncertain of what product to choose, you may want to consult a skin care professional.

Step 2: A loofah or luffa is a sponge used to scrub the body off dead skin cells. Make sure that you scrub your dry skin using a loofah though an exfoliating glove which can be purchased from drug stores also works. Start with the soles of the feet and then working your way up your body until everything is covered.

Step 3: The next thing that you need to do is to get into the shower and wet your body starting from your head down to your toe. You can use a pumice stone on your feet when it comes to dealing with rough or callous areas of the feet. If you feel that your feet is filled with rough spots then soaking them in a basin of warm water with a cup of milk for 30 minutes is a good start.

Step 4: Once you are done with the pumice stone, what you do next is to apply the exfoliating product or cleanser on your loofah or exfoliating gloves and start scrubbing your body in a circular motion starting at the bottom of your feet. Just be careful when it comes to the bikini area because the skin on that part of the body is sensitive. For hard to reach areas, you can use a body brush to reach them.

Step 5: When it comes to exfoliating your face, make sure that you use a gentler product because the face’s skin is more sensitive, particularly around your eyes and mouth as compared to the other parts of the body. Once you are done, rinse your body with lukewarm water and then followed by cold water and then apply a moisturizing body lotion after drying up your body.
These are the steps to prepare your body for a perfect self tan.
